Sabtu, 31 Agustus 2019, Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (FMIPA) Universitas Negeri Makassar bekerjasama dengan WEnglish untuk \u00a0melaksanakan Test of English as a Foreign Language<\/em> (TOEFL) kepada Mahasiswa Baru Kelas International Class Program<\/em> (ICP) dari Jurusan Fisika, Matematika, Kimia, dan Biologi. Pelaksanaan TOEFL ini ditujukan untuk mengukur keterampilan Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa baru FMIPA. Hasil pengukuran kemampuan bahasa Inggris tersebut selanjutnya akan dikirimkan ke masing-masing jurusan sebagai bahan pertimbangan para pimpinan jurusan dalam penentuan kebijakan terkait peningkatan kemampuan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa.<\/p>\n

Upaya peningkatan kemampuan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa saat ini menjadi perhatian penting pimpinan FMIPA, mengingat semakin banyaknya peluang beasiswa dan pertukaran pelajar di dalam dan luar negeri yang mensyaratkan kemampuan Bahasa Inggris yang memadai. \u201cUntuk memfasilitasi mahasiswa dalam meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris, saat ini FMIPA menyediakan pendampingan secara gratis melalui kerjasama dengan Education USA sebagai lembaga yang dibawahi oleh Kementrian Luar Negeri Amerika Serikat. Pelaksanaan pendampingan untuk memperoleh beasiswa serta untuk peningkatan kemampuan bahasa inggris bersama Education USA akan dimulai pada 5 September 2019.\u201d Ungkap Wakil Dekan Bidang Kerjasama dan pengembangan, Dr. Andi Asmawati Azis, M.Si, yang juga menghadiri dan memantau secara langsung pelaksanaan TOEFL bagi mahasiswa baru ICP di Gedung SS Lantai tiga FMIPA Universitas Negeri Makassar.<\/p>\n

Sebelum pelaksanaan TOEFL, para mahasiswa diberi penjelasan tentang\u00a0pentingnya kemampuan Bahasa Inggris di era global serta berbagai program yang dapat mereka ikuti jika memiliki nilai TOEFL yang memadai, salah satunya Program Pertukaran Pelajar selama satu semester di Chulalongkorn University Thailand. Mengetahui berbagai jenis program yang dapat mereka ikuti, termasuk untuk melanjutkan pendidikan dengan beasiswa di dalam dan di luar negeri, para mahasiswa terlihat sangat antusias mengikuti TOEFL. Pengalaman mengikuti TOEFL adalah kali pertama bagi sebagian besar mahasiswa baru FMIPA. Karenanya, pelaksanaan TOEFL ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kesadaran dan motivasi mahasiswa baru untuk semakin meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris hingga dapat membangun kolaborasi dalam pergaulan internasional.<\/p>\n
